The second spring show & sale of Munster Branch of the Irish Angus Society was held at Kilmallock Mart on Saturday April 28th. There were 35 bulls forward from the 55 entered with the majority of the absent bulls sold prior the sale. Despite the continued poor weather & fodder challenges there was a clearance of 67% at an average of €2,400 (flat with last year).
The Munster branch were delighted to have Terence O Brien from Kilkenny judge the pre sale show.
Terence selected Killernan Noah from the herd of Martin Hehir in Miltown Malbay in Clare as Show Champion. Noah is a son of Balmachie Rannai, and had a calving difficulty of 1.8%. the champion later sold for €2,800 The reserve champion was Tubridmore Prince Daniel came from the herd of Denis Twomey Causeway. Prince Daniel is a son of Tubridmore Monarch, he was later sold for €2,700
It was a successful day in the sales ring for John Barlow of Aherlow Tipperary, selling his 3 entries for an average of €3,000. On the day he received the top price of €3,100 for Gurtavoher Pierre, this bull won was a class winner & was a son of Castlelough midnight. The Barlows also received €2,950 for Gurtavoher Pabalo, this bull was also a first prize winner. Pabalo is a son of Gurtavoher M481 & the Barlows reveived €2,900 for Gurtavoher Nani, this bull was a son of Castlelough Midnight.
the second highest price of the day was received by Con Quinn for Knockantybrien Nightingale. This son of Ballymagrine wonder made €3,000.
Other top prices on the day-
Tubridmore Net solid gold from Denis Twomey Causeway Co kerry made €2,850. This bull was a son of Sav Solid gold.
Bawnafinny Padraig from Brendan O’Connell Blarney Co. Cork received €2,700 for a Mogeely Joe son
