The second Show & Sale of Munster Branch of the Irish Angus Society was held at Kilmallock Mart on Saturday April 27th. Despite Storm Hannah the previous night/that morning, there were 32 bulls forward for the sale with 22 bulls changing hands giving a clearance rate of close to 70% at an average price of €2,220. Auctioneer for the show & sale was Francis McGowan.  While the top 2 prices paid on the day were for March born bulls, the trade was more challenging for the younger bulls presented.

The Munster branch were delighted to have Derek Lovell from the Knockbrown herd in Bandon Co Cork as our judge for the pre saleshow.

Derek selected Tubridmore prince John 634 from the Denis Twomey, Causeway Co Kerry as Show Champion. Prince John is a son of Shankill Max and a Belvin Patriarch dam. Prince John had a calving difficulty of 1.4% and Prince John did not meet his reserve on the day.

The reserve champion was Gurtavoher Rian came from the herd of John Barlow, Aherlow Co Tipperary. Rian is a son of stockbull Castlelough Midnight Brandy. Rian is a March born bull with 2 star replacement and calving difficulty of 3%. Rian sold for top price of €3,000.

The Barlow family also achieved €2,800 for GurtavoherRoudolf. Roudolf was also a son of Castlelough Midnight Brandy and from a Goulding Jumbo King dam. Roudolf was march born and carried 3 stars replacement and terminal with a calving difficulty of 2.7%.

Also achieving €2,800 was Knockantybrien Patrick from the herd of Con & Patricia Quinn Annacarty Co Tipperary. Patrick is a son of Ballymagrine Wonder & a Hallington endeavour dam. Patrick carried 5 stars replacement with a calving difficulty of 2.5%

The next highest price of €2,700 was paid for Killernan Real deal from the herd of Martin Hehir milltownmalbay co clare. Real deal is a Rawburn Boss Hogg son and off a Goulding jumbo king dam. Real deal was 5 star terminal & replacement and had a calving difficulty of 2.7%.

Swanky P302 Berkley from the herd of Thomas Prendiville Tarbert Co Kerry was sold for €2,500. P302 Berkley is a son of Te Mania Berkley and a Rawburn lord rocket dam. P302 Berkley was 5 star for replacement and terminal and a calving difficulty of 1.1%

The final Munster Branch spring show & sale for 2019 will be held at Kilmallock Mart on Saturday May 11th.
